<hyperfekt>
funny how not a single of them gets the domains vs applications difference. i guess if you're an active qubes user you can't be too bothered by it - as such they aren't the target audience anyway

yeah if people are happily using Qubes that's great!

what is really sad is that there isn't any words about crossvm

<hiroshi[m]>
spectrum is a wIP projects, in your current nixos setup do you have the base os with home manager integration ? or in other words how do isolate apps with nixos?
<qyliss>
I don't
<hiroshi[m]>
that is interesting
<hiroshi[m]>
is that because home manager can't rollback user configs ? or just because you prefer to use nixos without it
<qyliss>
It just seems like a big rabbit hole and it's so similar to Spectrum work it would use up the same brain capacity, so I'd rather focus on Spectrum
<hiroshi[m]>
that is a good answer
<hiroshi[m]>
how spectrum os is going to have a network isolation ? is there any way to test spectrum os wihtout an iso
<qyliss>
not easily at the moment
<qyliss>
the plan for network isolation is to pass through network devices to VMs, and have them export the connections over virtio-vhost-user (once that's more ready)
<hiroshi[m]>
understood
<qyliss>
that way, the host doesn't have to touch networking at all, application VMs can only talk to the network devices the host lets them, and only the network VMs have to deal with network drivers other than vhost-net
<hiroshi[m]>
that looks really good.
<qyliss>
the major problem is that virtio-vhost-user still needs a bit of time to mature
<qyliss>
so we'll have to use host-based networking until then
