Hey! was just linked to this project by a friend. Sounds very interesting! I have used Qubes for a while but fell out of love after it ate a bunch of my home partitions... before I was weaving VMs by hand with libvirt.
<cryptix>
Today I’m using nixos but don’t bother as much with containers but would love to again so this seems really cool!
<cryptix>
I’m sure someone asked this before but I couldn’t find a post on it (yet): how does spectrum compare to genode?
<cryptix>
The landing page says nix, not nixos. Does that mean it will start with a fresh take on nixpkgs or how should that be read?

cryptix: spectrum is declarative and linux based, genode is heavily imperative and not linux based
<zgrep>
Also their goals probably differ. Genode's attempting to be a generic framework/standard for all sorts of applications (of which Sculpt is an interesting example), while spectrum's focusing on what a person would put on their laptop/desktop.

I think Spectrum has plans of not being too based on NixOS and its modules, but will still use nixpkgs? I'm not certain about this, though, and someone more involved would know better.
<raboof>
(this was also my impression but it would be good if someone could confirm :) )
<hiroshi[m]>
there aren't so many details about spectrum base, but I think it will use nixos on base with crosvm + wayland + kvm . I can't wait for the first iso or an way to test it and help with it xD
