oh doh it took me all of two days for it to hit <samueldr> and, non-coincidentally, when I learned how windows and macOS knew where files came from
<pie_>
i always just assumed internet explorer stored the valu ein the registry or something.....
<samueldr>
for windows it's the xattr-cousin alternate file streams iirc
<samueldr>
for macOS it's not xattr outright, but something similar, not 100% sure and it might have changed since... years ago
<pie_>
yeah i knew alternative file streams exist
<v0idify>
not sure but shouldn't ls -l show xattrs or at least say something about them?
<moonloo>
there's lsattr

moonloo: I've used 9p, works okay, even over vsock!
<qyliss>
but as discussed a few days ago it's much higher overhead than virtio-fs
<qyliss>
if your use case is VMs
<IdleBot_561ed31e>
qyliss: higher overhead even in the separate virtiofsd scenario, which would be nice?
<moonloo>
qyliss: which 9p server implementation did you use? diod?

IdleBot_561ed31e: sure, because seperate virtiofsd is just like running a seperate 9p server
